Hokkien Fried prawn noodles, it's one of Singaporean's comfort food. Almost all hawker centres have 1 or 2 hokkien mee stalls and most agree, it's the broth that makes the difference!

Chia Keng Hokkien Mee stall is at Chomp chomp Hawker Centre, surrounded by many food stalls with patrons flocking from all parts of Singapore to taste the great food here.

Chia Keng is run by a family of 4, they start preparing the food from around 4pm, frying pork lard, preparing the chilli and most importantly, simmering the prawn broth.

This stall have customers waiting around from 4.30pm, hanging around to wait for them to open. Chia Keng starts only at 5pm onwards.

"We work late everyday and alot of ingredients to prepare, so we also start later, because the broth need time to prepare."

Waiting time here easily goes up to 40 mins or more, with the longest waiting time between 6pm - 8.30pm.

WE TRIED IT!

Makan Kaki team tried their Medium size version.

Notable points

1. gravy is flavourful and filled with bits of meat.

2. Fresh Ingredients - Fresh prawns, slices of squid and pork lard on top!

3. Noodles soak up the gravy in 5-10mins, which makes it more flavourful, chilli is also spicy enough, but not extreme.

MK Rating : 8/10
