Who say west side got no good food? Clementi West / West Coast is famous for 2 stalls selling Mee Pok and Bak Chor Mee, ok... one of the stall is a Japanese Fusion Bak Chor Mee operated by Naoji Kuribara-san called Ah Li Japanese Fusion Mee Pok and the other is Ah Hoe Mee Pok who imparted the skills of Mee Pok and Bak Chor Mee to Naoji Kuribara-san.
Prices for Ah Hoe Mee Pok is definitely not at mass market rates but the long queue everyday at his stall for lunch is a testament to how delicious it is. We overheard people in the queue telling each other that it is worth every dime and dollar. Located near to Ayer Rajah Market at West Coast, not easily reachable by public transport, still throngs of fans drive (from as far off as Tuas) to sample his Special Mee Pok and Bak Chor Mee.
Ah Hoe is not one that stinge when it comes to ingredients. His Special Mee Pok comes with slices of Abalone (YES,
REAL ONES HOR, NOT ABALONE MUSHROOM) and comes with a tasty bowl of soup.
Besides delicious Bak Chor Mee and Mee Pok, Ah Hoe serves up a range of equally excellent side dishes that will make you scream, "Go on! Exercise tomorrow can already!"
